Birmingham Mother Wins Five-Figure Medical Negligence Settlement

A mother from Birmingham has received a substantial settlement in a medical negligence claim against Heart of England NHS Trust after a bacterial infection was not diagnosed, eventually leading to her requiring a hysterectomy.

Hayley Sanders, now 23, was just 19 when she required an emergency caesarean section while giving birth to son Jayden on December 27th 2009.

While she received a number of examinations, staff at the hospital did not act on four different high temperature readings, discharging her. Two days later, she returned to hospital and was sent to the high dependency unit, where she went into a coma.

Doctors had to perform the hysterectomy in order to save her life.
